Trump and Trumpism

This AKE Special Report looks into the the Republican midterm primaries. The primaries indicate the level of influence former president Donald Trump still has over the party, and show that while he retains significant power over the party his authority may be weaker that previously thought.

At the core of Trump problems is that his agenda has been adopted by the majority of the party. His influence in reshaping the party's ideology may then be his downfall. Even candidates he did not support pledged fidelity to the Trump agenda.

Thus, Trump does not have the space to appeal to unrepresented voters – a triumph for Trumpism but a challenge for Trump. He could be left with a campaign in future elections that focuses on Trump the man, without a significant policy differentiator.
