IS-K: down but not out
While the IS-K threat is primarily domestic and the group poses no serious threat to the Taliban regime, it has expanded its activities in northern Afghanistan in recent months, claiming to have carried out cross-border rocket attacks on Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on 18 April and 7 May, respectively. IS-K’s activities in the north have the potential to damage already tense relations with Afghanistan’s Central Asian neighbours and to further deter foreign commercial activity in Afghanistan.
